Diet News - The True Ups and Downs!!

What a funny week this has been, lots of traveling around and would you believe more stomach problems, culminating in me throwing up on Platform 6 at Kings Cross Station! These stomach problems just won't go away, though I have now got a follow up date with the surgeon for June.
The good news is that my weight is coming down, mainly as my food has being coming up :) However, at least that is one good side effect of not feeling well.

With the health being dodgy I have not been at the gym, though my eating has been healthy. I seem to have lost that desire for sweets and desserts..phew!

I finally feel that my weight is now back under control and hopefully that target weight will be reached sooner rather than later.

Burning Calories

We often talk on the diet podcast about how dieting is simple - you burn more calories than you eat. The problem is our lack of desire to burn the calories and over desire to eat calories!

I was reading in the Times today about the good old English Breakfast

" The fried English breakfast was conceived during the Industrial Revolution (probably) as a form of fast fuel for a working class that actually worked. They ate 3,000 calories in the morning, then they burnt 3,000 calories by lunchtime. Or died when the mine collapsed. But you don't burn 3,000 calories driving a forklift truck, or answering the phone at Argos, or fiddling your disability benefit. The work dies, but the breakfast lives on."

How true, I have often thought....oh I can have a full breakfast, after all they say the breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, the latter may be true but we have to be honest about our lifestyle - does our lifestyle justify the calorific eating? I know mine doesn't. So this article has made me stop and think about how I justify my bad eating habits.

Valuing Yourself By Having a Personal Maintence System

I listened to the interview Heather made with Dayle Haddon, and I was struck that she is so right about valuing yourself. Why do we let ourselves go? Why do we let the weight pile on? I know for me it always happens at a time when I am either

  • Too busy so that my health is lower down my list of priorities
  • Unhappy with an aspect of my life
  • Tired and therefore health moves down my list of my life to do list. Let's not kid ourselves, living a healthier lifestyle takes effort, takes time.

However, most of this means that to be healthy, to be at the weight that we want to be at...means that day in day out we need to value ourselves. We are our only asset and yet we let it deteriorate which is stupid....if our body is our only asset, then we should be creating a personal maintenance system that keeps that "asset" strong and healthy.

Mind Over Fatter!

I have to report this week is going well on the diet. Each night it has been vegetables - yes, starting to like the idea of healthy food...in fact love sweet potato and butternut squash.

I have not stood on the scales for over a fortnight - the reason is not that I am kidding myself about the weight gain, I know I put weight on - I decided that I would leave it for a week so that I can see the fruits of my healthy eating. My mind is strong and the last thing I needed was to stand on the scales to see the weight! If I stand on the scales this weekend at roughly the same weight pre New York then I will be happy as I know I have got back under diet control and that weight loss is happening again.

The mind is a funny thing...the more I live this lifestyle the more I realise that weight is purely a mind issue.
