Yesterday I told you about Lindsy who has a large amount of weight to lose. I thought I might share 5 tips that helped me to lose over 60lbs.
- Key for me was seeing myself as slim. Previously, I had seen myself as fat and acted (and ate) like a large person. See in your mind as a slim person, keep reinforcing the image.
- Break down the weight loss into small goals. As I am in the UK we use stones (1 stone is 14lbs). I started at 15st 11lbs and therefore aimed for 15.5 stones...then 15st 3lbs which was my first half stone loss, then 14 st 14lbs to get under the 15 stone barrier...then 14st 10lbs to achieve my first stone weight loss...etc..e.tc I never thought of having to lose 4 stone or 56lbs, that felt too big...I always focused on the next mini goal.
- Each day I imagined the feeling of fitting into a pair of trousers that I had kept at the back of the wardrobe. Every now and then I would try them on, I aimed for being able to wear them again.
- If I was tempted...I asked myself "Do you want that treat more than you want to be slim?" The answer was always no...therefore I refused the treat.
- Blogging was a huge motivation as I made myself write each day, it keeps the focus there, it keeps the accountability there. If you don't blog then write a journal or diary.
Hope these 5 tips help Lindsy and anyone else who has a large amount of weight to lose. Always remember anything worth having is hard work, but the feeling you get is well worth it.
Heather do you have anything to add? Or indeed Anne, Karen or FoxyDot?
I would simply remind you of the simple fact that if more calories are used than consumed you will lose weight, that any form of exercise will help, and that you're not alone.

I would add, some of us have bad hours, then bad days, then bad weeks. However bad you have been for however long, forgive yourself, review in detail at night, and set yourself up to start again. Repeat each night if necessary. It works. Blogging and podcasting mean the commitment is in writing and its public, so once you've made that commitment it doesn't matter how long it takes you will get there.

I have to say that just announcing it to those who know me has done a lot to keep me focused so far. Add in the fact that people from all over the world now know what I intend to do and there's no way I'm backing out!
I love the idea of seeing myself as my goal weight now. Because my problem is that I get very frustrated with the issues I have with food and I resent the fact that I can't seem to just be normal. So maybe if I just pretend to be normal, things will fall into place. Lately, I've been eating much smaller amounts and taking very small bites. I think to myself that I need to eat like my grandma, and it helps a lot.
Thanks for your support, ladies. I'm truly in awe of you all.
