Tips on not "Living Fat"

I believe that we can either think and live thin or that we can think and live fat! I know the English is not great but here are my tips

  • Replace fat foods with thin foods. For instance I love butter but now only stock low fat margarine, each food I buy has a low fat content.
  • Walk rather than use the car.....living thin means walking to the shops rather than taking the easy way of using the car.
  • Reduce your plate size - eat from a side plate or small plate rather than a dinner plate.
  • Wear colours rather than dull ones. I think we can hide behind our clothes, no matter our size, don't hide.....enjoy your body rather than hide it.
  • Drink more water....thin people drink more water which is healthier and also quenches your hunger.
  • Eat for yourself rather than others. Whenever I am with my family I used to eat to please them, which resulted in overeating....now I try and train them to reduce their expectations of what I eat. I put less on my plate and talk to them how my taste is changing. For instance, I ask my mum ahead of going over to cook my favourite healthy food..rather than leaving the choice to her.

What tips have you got?

• Think natural ... try to go for foods that are unrefined and in their complete state, ie. anything you could harvest or hunt!
• Keep a balance ... not just with your diet but with different types of exercise too.
• Give yourself non-food rewards when you're doing well.
• Remember the calorie formula - if more are consumed than used, you will put on weight.
• Share ... your food and your feelings.

Eat your fruits and veggies first during a meal. They'll help you fill up faster.

Drink one 8 oz. glass of skim milk for breakfast or as a snack. It will fill you up, give you energy over a longer period of time than simpler sugar and carbohydrate based snacks (it's the protein in the milk and the lactose just helps it taste good), and it helps get that all important calcium in the diet.

That tip about eating your fruit and veggies first during the meal sounds great - I shall try that:

Here are my tips:

Dont wait until you are hungry before you eat.
Cut out fizzy drinks - they dont help even if they are low fat.
Use a small plate.
Exercise regularly and add in 15-20 minutes of serious movement in the morning as soon as you get up.
and finally
eat porridge.
