When I was a child I had the usual issues, - didn't like vegetables, hated bread, not keen on fruit...
My Gran lived with us and she cooked a mean egg and chips (which I duly ate)...
At that stage I dont remember healthy diet being mentioned, only what was affordable.
This almost certainly did not help my attitude to health and diet.
Contrast that with my son.
He has been made to eat a variety of healthy foods, and even loves swede and sprouts.
Maybe the trend doth change?
