The Laws of Attraction Pt 2

Yesterday, I wrote about attracting the right talent and before I move on to the second step - motivation, I want to discuss a little more about attraction. We have all be there...we meet someone who captures our heart, we spend time on our appearance as we want them to think the best of us. Time goes by and we lose interest in looking 100% for our partners!

The same goes for attracting talent. Once you have offered a role, don't get complacent. You can start motivating them before they physically join. Think about...

  1. How to communicate whilst they are working their notice, make them feel valued and part of your team early doors.
  2. Are there any social events that you could invite them to?
  3. What does your documentation look like? Can this be done on line ? Does it convey the values that you want?
  4. Can you send them a CD of the company, or invite them to a blogging page?
  5. Send flowers to the family saying that you are glad that their partner, wife, husband has chosen to join you.
  6. Put REAL effort into the welcome program (I hate the word induction, who wants to be inducted!) - this is so important that I will write a specific post on it.

Remember that pre joining and for 6 months after-wards, you are in a danger zone for losing this talent. Time invested here will be repaid tenfold later on.
