At the moment in the UK the pound is worth over $1.92 and the a key reason is due to rising interest rates in the UK. There is a leadership lesson for people who want to raise their career currency - increase your interest rates in your personal brand, to increase the interest of others. So how can you raise your interest rate?
- Have you looked at your business network - is it a list of contacts or are you providing value to others? Highlight the connections and develop an action list as to how you can build stronger business relationships.
- How can you expand that network, to increase your knowledge, potential mentors and career opportunities? Ideas here could be local associations, projects at work, google groups, social networking sites like LinkedIn.
- What skills and emotional development do you need to enhance your leadership capability...once identified have you taken action to develop it?
- Do you have a way of highlighting the value you are bringing to your team, your boss, your company. This should not be a blow my own trumpet approach but a feedback mechansim to link performance to bottom line performance. More on this later in the week.
- Do you have a daily connection mindset - having lunch with someone in another department, commenting on blogs, volunteering, teleconferences, smiling at people in the street, at work?
- Remember givers gain.....the best way to earn interest is to pay into the relationship bank. What can you do to help others, the more you help others the greater the value you have to people around you.
