Customer Entertainment

I was speaking to a student today, I asked him what he did to make ends meet. He said to me "I am in the entertainment industry"

"Really" I said "Which part?"

" I am a customer service rep at an engineering parts company" he replied

" Oh right" I said, clearly looking surprised! Much to my embarrassment

"I know some people don't see the connection but every day I make people laugh, cry, smile etc depending on the status of their order. But they always come off the phone thinking that they are the most important person in the world and happier than when they phoned.....therefore I say entertainment"

I looked at this guy and thought, now you will go far........he creates an human connection each time he answers the phone....when I asked him where he had got this idea, he said - "Well they do pay my wages the least I can do is make them feel special"

On such conversations do I build hope!
