Managing Teams To Prevent Anarchy

I received an e-mail from Dave who said "I am not sure about all this dialogue, does it just not create anarchy?"

Great question and one that many people think. Without an open culture you may well still have anarchy - the difference is that you do not know about it, which is even more worrying! But here are my 6 tips on how to have a great culture without anarachy

  1. Recruit people that fit your culture.
  2. Clear boundaries around values and styles - and manage to them
  3. Recognise that people are different...some may not want to be expressive, that is fine...manage the individual not the role. Treat people as adults and they will behave like adults!
  4. Give each team member a reason to succeed - what is in it for them?
  5. Deal with poor performers, people who act outside the boundaries....quickly to give clear signals of what you expect.
  6. Celebrate success daily....give people praise for hard work and accomplishment.
