What I learned from a Junk Sale
Yesterday I piled lots of rubbish in my car and went over to a sale with my best friend who talked me into doing it. There were some important lessons for me would you believe!
- What you may think is "junk" or not wanted, other people cherish and love
- Consumers decide what is useful to them - the items left at the end were the ones I believed would go quickly!
- There is value all around you if you look closely
- Connecting with people and sharing a story about the product was the best way to capture a buyer!
It made me think about business in general
- Are you seeing the real value in your people? If you do not see a value, is that more of a reflection on you than them?
- Value is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to attract talent, understand what they are looking for and deliver
- How much we can ignore people that are long servers...we are used to them being there, but once they go....you realise how much you miss them and what value they were. How much better would it be to value them throughout their careers!
- People love a story to connect to....replace data with dialogue, replace information with stories, replace telling with sharing.
The final thing I learned was that to create value it takes an enormous amount of hard work :)
