I was reading the latest Success magazine over the weekend, and came across a wonderful story about Brianne Schwantes who was born with 13 broken bones and not expected to live through the day because of her condition - Osteogenesis Imperfecta.
She describes how her family daren't touch her in case they broke a bone with catastrophic results. Then in walked Grandma Eileen who came in and scooped Brianne up in her arms saying "No one should be taught to be afraid of life"
Brianne has lived a very full and fulfilling life and has never been scared of her illness. She says "No matter what the obstacle or problem facing you, life is about 2 choices. You can choose to give up, or you can choose to stay your ground and fight...and succeed"
One, what an uplifting story and puts into context the problems or issues in my life. Secondly, I would like us all to think about Grandma Eileen - and think tomorrow at work
"No one should be taught to be afraid of leading, taking risk or making decisions"
Because if we as managers or leaders breed that culture..then we will never see the success and resilience that Grandma Eileen saw in Brianne.
