Blogging Brings Internal as well as External Benefits

Working with clients on whether to blog or how to get started blogging, I find some of the benefits are as internal than external.

  1. It gives you a real insight into not what you think your culture is...but what your culture ACTUALLY is....
  2. It gives the leadership team an insight into how you need to develop the next generation of leaders and management. A couple of areas that I have found has really helped are coaching sessions around :- creating reslience, managing stress, how to listen effectively, the connection of internal and external branding.
  3. Blogging can uncover some great ideas and also uncover talent hidden within your business.
  4. It is a great tool to measure the level of engagement with the business and the strategy.
  5. It can really help communication across the functions, build a respect level between teams - if done correctly!
  6. Highlight pressure points within the business
  7. Increase the emphasis on communication skills, especially the power of words.

Blogging is not for every company. If you have a closed culture then I don't see the value of appearing something that you are not. However, the benefits of blogging go beyond just using the tool - it helps give clarity to the culture, the talent and the strength in depth within the organisation.
