6 Business Myths Busted!
After over 20 years in business, I smile at how phrases are used by leaders and managers - often, I think for justification - which are either myths or just clearly wrong.
So here are my top 6 phrases that I hear when I am working with companies, that make me smile - or is it cringe
- Yes, but our business is different.....
- People are our greatest asset - (If they were you wouldn't have to say it)
- All our customers are bothered about is price (Ouch, value is quite different to price)
- Year 1 will be difficult, year 2 will be better but year 3 watch it grow...(unfortunately year 3, is year 2 next year and year 1 the following)
- Why ask employees what they want? We know, more money...(Money is never top of any engagement survey. I believe people are more likely to look for more money, as compensation for unhappiness)
- This is confidential, keep it to yourself (Nothing is confidential, just stand in the hall, near the coffee, to hear the latest news - better than the boardroom!)
