We have heard so much about how social media is changing the marketing approach. Marketing used to be a verb, that you used to "do", now the definition is changing. Marketing is collaborative, marketing is about conversations, marketing is about stories not messages. However, I still see so many brands who do not understand the concept of stories.
Here are my thoughts on stories
- Stories work when they are relevant to the reader
- Stories work when they are true, rather than messages parading as stories
- Stories work when they show your "humanness" - that means the good and the bad.
- Stories work when they are emotional rather than rational
- Stories work when they relate to the readers life. When the reader can be part of the story, because they have the experience, the fear or the dream that is related in the story.
