So here is the irony, I have lived in this house for 7 years and hardly ever spoken to the people around me. Over the last couple of weeks it has snowed like crazy and I have met so many people, laughed with them, made friends, helped them clear snow etc
It made me think how we can be shy at making friends, how we can live in a community rather than be part of a community, how a shared problem brings people together.
Of course there are lessons for social media but there are also lessons for change initiatives at work. People can hide in their cubicles/offices, people can forget the importance of a shared vision, people can forget that when faced with problems....if we face it together we are stronger.
Instead there are closed door meetings and announcements...rather than openness and shared conversations. The more open we all are in business, then the more likely we are to change together. The more conversation and 'mucking in' we do, the more likely disaster can be avoided.
And as much as I hate shoveling snow, the teamwork and leg pulling makes it enjoyable....change initiatives don't succeed because they are launched with a severe warning of doom...change initiatives work when job titles are replaced with shared understanding, shared belief that together ...we are stronger
