Listening to an interview with Billy Bragg he said one of his favourite opening song lines is
"He was trapped in a haircut he no longer believed in"
Other than making me laugh, it made me think of how 'trapped' is so inextricably linked with belief. Trapped is unhealthy and so often felt by employees and even customers.
We can often mistake trapped with loyalty or engagement...when the opposite is true. Trapped is a negative emotion that will be at the heart of your customers story about you as a brand....that is what people are hearing about you. Other humans won't come near as survival is key, trapped is not attractive!
Ahead of next week maybe we should muse on the treadmill tomorrow
- How do we potentially trap customers - how can we turn this into a positive ?
- How do we recognise employees who feel trapped? They need you to release them to reignite their passion - maybe a project, maybe a change of department, maybe just even a little time with you to recognise them!
Maybe a post-it on our computer saying
"They were trapped in the contract but freed they now believe in me again"
