Progress is so important in order to generate enthusiasm and engagement - both internally and externally.
However, progress is often judged on todays success rather than over time.
Success, for me, should be measure not on last months figures but over the medium term. My fab boss from years ago used to hold each meeting with the following structure
- How are we progressing over the last rolling 12 months?
- What do we need to do over the next 3 months?
- What is stopping us from achieving our dreams and how can we blast through these barriers
- How can we change the world for the better?
What a wonderfully uplifting meeting......it was not about how are we doing to the fake budget, not how are we doing for 30 days which are just a moment in time, not what has gone wrong....
Progress...is about a little and often and understanding where you have come from and where you are heading next....
