Advertising methods have been constantly changing since the dawn of time. Anytime a new invention comes out advertisers begin the process of how to ultimately reach their target market through this new media. As we now move on from the more traditional forms of advertising to the now ever so popular interactive marketing, advertisers say that these less expensive out reaches are more effective. There are many forms of traditional advertising methods
- News paper
- Magazines
- Billboards
- Television Commercials
- The best kind of advertising is word of mouth because it’s free!!
These kinds of advertising methods are harder to use because of the wide audience it reaches. It is very difficult to determine who is going to see the ad the most. Now don’t get me wrong these forms of advertising are still very prominent in today’s society. An example of this, are the commercials during the super bowl every year. The cost of putting a commercial in during the super bowl costs between $2.5 million to almost $3 million for a 30 second spot. Every year there is talk about which commercial is going to be the best. So as you can see there is still a lot of money being spent on the traditional forms of marketing, however the amount is decreasing.
The funds that are not being spent on the more traditional forms of advertising are now being put toward the new interactive media.

- Social Media
- Smart Phones
Especially during the current recession, advertising funds are usually the first to take a hit. With these new forms, advertisers are able to more closely target their market for less money.
Something new that has started is advertising based on what people say on their status updates. If I went onto my Facebook page and put that I went to the doctor and now I have to have surgery on my knee. Then medical insurance companies might start putting advertising on the sides of the page. This allows medical insurance companies to reach a more of their target market. And who know this may allow someone who doesn’t have medical insurance to get insurance to save them money before their surgery.
So now advertisers can relate to your needs and wants and the time. Advertising started out with print, moved on to Television and has now moved on to the internet. As time goes on, advertisers are now able to more effectively and more efficiently advertise to their target market.
The more personable the ads the more people will pay attention to the ad so it is a win win for everyone.
