Can adults learn from children? This weekend I spent some time with children. I thought is was so refreshing, and thought maybe there is an enormous amount that as leaders we can learn form these leaders of the future. These are some points I will try and take from these little future leaders and use now When fobbed off with an inane answer ask why until you get to the true answer. Ask the question that is in your mind no matter how simple it seems, it leads to greater dialogue. Bring story telling into the workplace, it is a great way to entertain and also make vital points. Allow your mind to wander and ask what if, how would a super hero solve this problem! Can't is not an answer, how could we is the real question.... Congratulate when they do well, they enjoy it and want to please you more. Give people attention, it is better to stop and give 100% for 10 minutes than to multitask and argue for 20 minutes because you are not fully engaged. It is great to play a little, it energizes you. Play brings out ideas that in the hurly burly of work you can easily ignore.

Inspiration makes you forget the perspiration Today, I had the great joy of speaking to one of my favorite authors - Seth Godin. Watch out for the interview next week on the podcast or subscribe now so you don't miss it! But what I wanted to share was the power of conversation. I spoke with Seth for about 25 minutes and the time flew by (I hope it did for him too!)...despite having read all his books and his daily blog....he enthralled me, he engaged me. This is a perfect example of how spoken word is so much more powerful than the written word when conveying theory and concepts. If I hadn't already bought his books I would have wanted to run out and buy them. The fact that he spared time for little old me, the fact that I felt valued, the fact that we had a dialogue, all these facts ensured that I remain fully engaged with him as a person. That is the kind of power that YOU have at work. When you listen, when you spare the time to show interest in someone, when you explain to people how your thoughts link to theirs, when you have a dialogue you create engagement. The power of human connection is amazing and we should value it every single day..........
