8 Random Things About Me

Another meme! But I love the idea of getting to know people a little better so here I am joining in. I got tagged by the wonderful yet Evil HR Lady who I spoke to earlier this year on my other podcast Middle Age Shed.

I am a HUGE Liverpool Football club fan.
My favourite food is a close call between cheese and pasta.
My middle name is Louise.
I have lost 58lbs this year!
As a child my arm kept falling out of the shoulder socket
I am speaking at the Podcast Expo in Ontario in September.
My favourite holiday has been in The Maldives.
I love Sunday morning and reading the Sunday Papers in bed

You are seriously my hero (heroine?). 58 pounds is amazing.

And just how does your arm fall out of your shoulder socket? I can understand getting it wrenched out when you try to escape from your mother and she has to grab your arm, but repeatedly? Ouch.

Evil HR Lady - that's funny. First of all losing weight is the easy part - you have managed to keep it off! Don't worry about my arm there was no bad story, it used to fall out when people shook my hand...then suddenly it stopped and was OK. It fell out of the shoulder socket about a dozen times....it was weird.

Lewis - I am constantly amazed by the friendships on line, despite the distance they are strong and true.

Don't worry Drew - 30 years on I seem to have grown out of the handshaking problem, which is fortunate!

The Maldives are gorgeous islands in the Indian Ocean - a real castaway holiday...not even the internet - ouch!

As for the diet, I seriously don't think I would have done it without setting up www.middleageshed.co.uk podcast and blog - and of course without my little on line diet buddy Heather Gorringe...we have had such a laugh weighing in live on the podcast each week...it has been fun rather than a diet.

Using Curiousity as a Strength People are curious, people talk, people explore the hidden messages. This is one reasons I believe that blogs are so popular - it feeds curiosity. I remember as a child constantly saying "But why? Mum" then over time we learn to curb that curiosity, at least in public because it can be uncomfortable to the person we are asking. As a leader, it is important to understand that curiosity is still there - it is there at the water cooler, there in the canteen, there in the adhoc meetings in the door way. People need to know why.... If you don't tackle the curiosity, if you don't accept it is a basic need then you will allow unease to grow. Remember that curiosity can be a great help within a business- it is something that can breed ideas, breed new markets, breed success - so you want to feed and cherish it within your team. But you need to cherish both ways - when it is being used for ideas AND when it is used to ask you why something is happening or not (No matter how uncomfortable that feels to you). So encourage people to ask why, give clear answers, give honest answers....curiosity may have killed the cat, but unanswered, even unloved curiosity can kill the leader.

Here were my top 3 signs 1) You are frustrated EVEN before the meeting happens. 2) You are the ONLY one being honest when the boss says "Do you agree?" 3) When you spend more time EXPLAINING your boss/peers decisions rather than actioning them....oh and 3.5) When your friends say "You've changed" What have been your signs?
