Do You Appeal To People's Intelligence? Consumers, customers, employees are now so much more informed. They often know more about the business, more about the choice then the business itself. So it is important to believe in their intelligence, rather than speak "down" to their assumed intelligence. Dad used to say to me...."if you are speaking down to someone that means you are in some way speaking from a platform. That would mean the people are at the foot of that platform, remember they have the power to shake it and bring you down." Engagement happens between equals.Conversation happens between friends. Loyalty happens from two way delivery of promises. The Most Important Conversation Conversations are at the core of society, conversations are at the heart of friendships and of course as The Cluetrain Manifesto highlighted...markets are conversations. As a leader, as a personal brand - you are your own market for your own internal conversations however the truth is often we Are so busy thinking about what others have said that we don't listen to our own thoughts. It is only by listening that we can grow and develop. Are too busy to really have the conversation about what we want as individuals...what is our free prize inside? what are our needs? Are too fearful to hold contradictory thoughts and develop a third way of seeing a solution I remember Dad saying...."To be happy, learn to be conversational with yourself. Somehow you need to find a way of living, of thinking that listens to both your heart and your head. Conversations are explorations, conversations are open. The only way you can have a true conversation with others, is to have that open, honest conversation with your inner self first" As I sit on the train today, I ask myself "What are you thinking, how are you feeling?" and then just let the conversation flow between the brain and the heart.....
