As the interview ran a little longer, I have split it into 2 shows. I will post the second part next week, once the second show goes up then the first person who sends me a link to how they are building a powerful personal brand on line will win a copy of the book!
In this first part we talk about
- Is personal branding about skills and knowledge or behaviours?
- Are personal brands more successful when they are the true you?
- A discussion around how celebrities manufacture their personal brands
- Why do people say they are different at work than at home?
- How do you build a personal brand and career whilst still staying likable!
- What is the first step to building a personal brand?
- Is personal branding about building on strengths or eliminating areas of development?
And don't forget to subscribe to the show - details at the bottom - so you don't miss the second part of the show :)

I think an interesting challenge is how to build a personal brand that is consistent with the organisation you work for. For example a number of people maintain blogs that reflect their views (and their personal brand) but are also business related and also represent their organisation. Often there can be a sort of tension between the two!

Just came across you through Steve Livingston's twitter followers list. I have been thinking about manoj ranaweera (me) as a brand. Few years ago I hardly knew anybody. Now people seem to recognise me. At present, I have no idea:
- my brand is positive
- my brand is negative
- what my brand stands for
- what is my brand is associated with
The reason I stated about is:
- I am excited about creating a much interactive ecosystem for digital entrepreneurs in the North (www.nwstartup20.co.uk, part of eveo Ltd)
- I run www.edocr.com (my second startup) - edocr Ltd
- I am an active networker
From everything I do, what contributes most to developing my brand, whilst I am also building two brands, edocr and Northern StartUp 2.0. People in the industry seem to have heard of all three.
All above makes bit of brand confusion at present. But brand equity ultimately need to be measurable.
Just wonder whether you have any thoughts about above.

Manoj - you sound busy! I think there are some basic things that I would do - for instance do you have google alerts and technorati alerts set up for your name and your company?
But most of all I would think about what you are trying to achieve, what would be success for you? What would be positive, what kind of brand do you want to build...then you can use various tools to measure progress against those objectives. If you want to email me feel free at [email protected]
