It was 1978 and I was feeling sad, walking round the golf course with Dad. I hadn't really started playing then, just watching Dad "hack" his way round the course. He turned and asked "What's wrong?"
I said that my elder sister seems to have ways of earning money, whereas me...and she had earned another five pounds this morning. I suggested it wasn't the money, I just felt like a kid.
Dad turned and threw one of his men's, full length golf clubs at me and said "No worries - here's a ball (worst one in his bag!), if you can drive the ravine (about 150 yrds carry), you get a fiver!"
Clearly, Dad thought his money was safe as I set up to the ball.....however, a few seconds later the ball flew clear over the ravine and a huge smile stretched over my childish face as I lay on the ground as the club, being too heavy had swung me right round onto the ground.
Dad handed over the money and said "Should have known you would prove me wrong"
"Dad, I didn't prove you wrong, I proved you right! You have always told me....you just need belief in all that you do"
Dad was laughing and said "You are absolutely right, that's why I drove it straight into the ravine - I didn't believe in my ability. Remember as you grow older and lead people, look for the opportunity for them to "prove you right". Oh and also remember the power of a leaders words.....people remember what you say, so don't say anything you don't believe :)"
(Don't worry, I spent part of my newly won money replacing the 4 balls Dad had lost during the round - after all I thought the more you give, the more you receive!)
I have a good read, I will certainly come back for more reads later. Thanks for sharing Anna. :)

Anna, you show how much your mind influences your outcomes. You still very much believe in your message because you carry out daily all the lessons your Dad gave you.
Wish my golf shot could go so well!

Robyn - I also it shows that I didn't learn these lessons because he TOLD me, he spoke in stories and experiences which is so important in both remembering and learning. If I have one regret is that I didn't record some of our conversations, they would have been great podcasts... hope you are well, send my love to Dr Ellen as well
