OK like every other business recessionary pressures are tough on The Engaging Brand, but do you know there are things that I love about recessions, here are my top 5 reasons to love the recession
- When you are positive about how to turn a recession from bad news to a market opportunity - you stand out from the crowd.
- People have less money in business and that means they have to get creative, I love being creative!
- Social media is a great tool for low budgets and high passion...that will be me then!
- People rely on people they can trust, trust becomes a strong asset....when times are good often my trust gets abused :( ....But in recessionary times my trusting nature is an asset...
- This is when true leaders come to the for, leaders who can inspire others to see the future, leaders that can find that light at the end of the tunnel and guide the people towards the air....
I may be in a minority of one however I enjoy recessions because it is then when you see the great brands, the great leaders....the ones that deliver on promises, values and helping their customers through the toughest times, building loyalty along the way. Most people can "succeed" when there is a boom, where is the challenge in that!!!
But then again my milk bottle was always overflowing rather than half full, or half empty....
Anna, thank you for your wonderful words of wisdom and terrific enthusiasm.

Whenever people talk about this recession its a lot of doom and gloom, which is starting to get on my nerves! I think people are listening to all the bad news and aren't thinking of ways to look at it from a positive stand point. If you don't look at the glass half full, it will be harder to look past the obstacle and figure out a way around it.

It's not easy to make a negative into a positive at times like this but very worth it.

Anna,
I absolutely agree. May I suggest a further few benefits of recessions:
1. Inefficient, irrelevant and dinosaur-like businesses and organisations become extinct (unless the government decides to bail them out of course!)
2. Entrepreneur-esque qualities are coaxed out of the most reluctant individuals who face uncertainty over jobs etc. In this 'sink or swim' scenario most will thrive and this will drive even greater innovation and creativity into the mix
3 New, exciting and innovative businesses emerge to fill the void left by the dinosaurs. New efficiencies and processes are created which nudges the business world one mili-metre further forward in its evolution.
Keep up the great work Anna.
Regards
Steve

Thanks everyone,
Steve - I think another one for me is that deflation, recession or even depressions change the world for the better as we have to work together, we also lose the complacency and return to the true values of humanity...in the main!
Hey CB how is my favorite marketing, carpet person? I take it as a compliment re enthusiasm from someone who inspires me...do you know I think as a world we are almost conditioned these days to concentrate on the negative - what is wrong, what are the faults etc if only we could start a movement around the world to see the good, what is great about ideas, solutions etc I know people think I am idealistic but you know life is for living and if you don't see the good then I feel you start to almost rot from the inside. Anyway seeing the bad is just too depressing for me! Love to your wonderful family

Anna, I've been quite frustrated with the focus on the negative. There's so much positive happening despite and because of all the turmoil about and yet we still fixate on the doom/gloom. It's a good thing there are wonderful enthusiasts like you about to set the world straight. Oh, and Emma says hello.

Great points, especially number 2, people have to be more creative even if there is no recession. Many businesses are wasting a lot of unnecessary money,
Thx
