Google isn't making us stupid, we are Much is written on how the internet is changing the way we live and think. One of the best articles, in my opinion is, "Is Google Making Us Stupid? What the Internet is doing to our brains" written by Nicholas G. Carr back in 2008 -a must read for anyone interested in social media, social marketing or the internet. But this is how I feel....the internet can't change us.....only we can change us! We should use Google to get smarter as humans, Google is my favourite company...truly love what they do...but let's not hide behind the increase in available artificial intelligence - as a way of reducing our emotional intelligence. Maybe we are more stupid because we Google everything, maybe Larry Page asserting that he wants to build the "ultimate search engine...something as smart as people - or smarter" means we are doomed to a life, controlled by the internet! But I don't think so.... Why? Because we are human and we humans need people with emotional intelligence as well as artificial intelligence. Basically we will survive because we need to be needed! Because we are the food that feeds Google. Google lives and thrives on links, social marketing thrives on links, social advertising relies on links....and who links, us humans. Why do we link, because of that human need to be valued....a link helps us show to others what we know, who we know...or how we can find the funniest cat video's! After saying that....we need to be careful. The internet is a creation of links......networking of people, data and companies. The world is a creation of community links. Our societies are struggling in many cases because we forgot the strength of human bonds, the strength one human gets from belonging and being supported by their "neighbour". Let's learn from that.... If we forget the human side of the internet, if we forget what makes humans link, if we forget what humans need from the social networking and social media sites...then we will dilute the internet. Google may gain strength because it knows more about us.....but we should grow even faster by using Google to know more about each other.
